What's With All the Porn?!?

A man from Woodbury, Connecticut was recently found with over 20,000 photos and videos of child pornography!

This is beyond disturbing!!! Not only was the magnitude of child pornography outrageous, but also the man was in his 60's AND a convicted sex offender!

After comparing four local Connecticut news sites one word comes to mind...layout.

While, of course there are many differences between how articles are presented, different tones used with similar subject matter, and different styles of writing. However, those are all to be expected. The one thing that really struck me immediately when going to these sites and even turned me away from some of them was the layout.

Geniuses Blaming Internet For Their Lack of Intelligence?

Is a website making us stupid? More specifically, is a search engine making us stupid? Is this a joke? Was author Nicholas Carr trying to bump up his page hits with the most ridiculous topic he could think of?

The World Wide Web, along with search engines and specific news sites allows us the ability to find an abundance of information quickly and efficiently. Not only that, but rather than spending hours searching through one academic journal we are able to sift through numerous sources with varying perspectives.

ObamaCare is here...but not unprotested

Health care for everyone!! A historic moment in our country's history, yet it is far from a celebration for many.

A common concern of the republican party is in regards to who will be paying for health care for the additional 32 million Americans who will now have access to it. The issue of abortion, specifically has come up numerous times.

Not only do republicans want no part in helping those without healthcare plans if it affects them financially, but they want no part in their tax payer dollars adding in any pro-choice decisions. That's their biggest concern? How ridiculous!

March for America equals March for Life

March for America is a rally that aims at providing better wages, improving work conditions, and labor protection for both native-born Americans and immigrants.

This is a touchy subject with many protesting, saying immigrants are stealing American jobs, taking money out of their pockets and food off their tables, etc.

However, I have to disagree. The fact of the matter is immigrants are people just like you and I, just because they have not lived here their entire life or may not speak the language does not take away their right to live and work.

Guns Don't Kill People...Gun Owners Do!

Recently, in Virginia, a group of gun rights advocates took matters into their own hands. Gathering together, all fully armed, with guns visible in holsters, celebrating the right to bear arms.

While being an American grants us many great rights such as this, it seems as though sometimes people take it to the extreme.

Yes we do have the right to bear arms. Yes we do have the right to protect ourselves. But what about the rights of those who choose not to exercise this right? Should they have to live in fear due to all the people now walking the streets, openly displaying their fire arms? I think not.

QU Frosh: Brains vs. Burnouts

During the month of February there were two major drug busts involving Quinnipiac freshmen. The first involved a student expulsion upon discovery of cocaine and marijuana, while the more recent involved 58.4 grams of marijuana!

Why bother pay thousands of dollars to a university when your just looking for room and board so that mommy won't find out about your drug habit? Doesn't make any sense to me.

More shocking than the actual incidents to me; was the favorable response by many.

VT Catamounts Head to Big Dance

We may be a small state but we sure can fill some big dancing shoes. This year the Catamount men's and women's basketball teams are both headed to the big dance. This marks the first ever appearance of both teams at the NCAA tournament!

The men gave a surprising 83-70 win over Boston University to gain their spot, while the women broke their competitiors 20 game winning streak to conquer 55-50.

While, the women seem to have the Cinderella story with their surprising upset, the men have something even more powerful; history repeating.

One of the most hands on, people-oriented, technical professions is now being offered in an online curriculum. Does that sound sketchy to anyone else?

I understand that in today's struggling economy nursing is one of few areas in which we are constantly in need of help; but in a job where you hold patients' lives in your hands you should probably be required to do a little more work with those hands than simply typing on a keyboard.

Little Known Secret: O'Hartford 5k

Why is it that local restaurant openings and grocery store sales seem to be overwhelmingly advertised, while community activities are often overlooked?

The O'Hartford 5k is an annual race thru Hartford where men, women, and children can dress in any attire they choose from the Jolly Green Giant to simple running shorts and a tank top.

People run together, all shapes, sizes, and gender with times varying from the winner crossing the finish line at 16:19 to the last place finisher crossing the line at 57:01.

License Renewal: Two years or Four....are those my only options?

In Vermont, the DMV offers two options when it comes to license renewal. You can either pay $40 to renew for four years or $25 to renew for two years. Well why can't i just renew my license for a year?

Doesn't that make sense? I mean unless your married, with a family and some permanent roots; why would you pay for a four year renewal?

What about the younger generation? College students, only in Vermont for a few years, or VT residents who went out of state for college...like me. I have my own residence in CT, yet still renewed my VT license. In just a couple months I may not be a VT or CT resident, yet I can't go without a license.

What's wrong with a year license renewal? Why should our younger generation with college tuition, bills, and loans to pay off have to suffer? I'd still paying the state for a year long license renewal that would only be used for 3 months....but why should i dish out $25 for a license that will most likely get discarded in 3 months?

Patrick Kuhse Finds His Passion?

Not that I disagree with the words spoken by Patrick Kuhse, but seriously, who does he think he's kidding?

He's an ex-stock broker who admitted to making $250,000 in one day due to his illegal dealings. He did no real work for the money and knew what he was doing was wrong, yet he kept doing it. His work philosophy had nothing to do with passion; money was his bottom line.

Chesire Murder Suspect Steven Hayes Boo Hoo

Cry me a river Steven Hayes; you showed no mercy in the 2007 Cheshire home invasion so why do you deserve our sympathies now?

You brutally kill Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her two adolescent daughters and as you awaits trial you expect compassion? Having said this I do understand that an eye for an eye is not always the right approach. However, i don't see being subjected to 24-hour lighting as cruel and unusual punishment.

As far as being deprived of sufficient medication; if he wasn't given proper medication then how is it he was able to overdose on Thorazine, an anti-psychotic, and klonopin, a trainquilizer? Is this suggesting that he was being fed ample amounts of drugs that he didnt need, while being deprived some other medication which he was supposedly in desperate need of...i doubt it!

Normally, i am as sympathetic as the next guy, but in this case my heart bleeds for the husband and father who was left alone. The husband and father that you stole the life from. As for you Steven Hayes, you have dealt with nothing compared to what this father and husband will deal with every day for the rest of his life. I say you can deal with a little light in your eyes, Steven Hayes.
